This week’s topic is: Maximizing Your Dollars. A few weeks ago, I came across an online service called “PlasticJungle.com”. It's an online marketplace for buying, selling, and trading gift cards.
At first, I didn’t really pay this any attention, until I realized you can buy gift cards at a discount of anywhere from 15 to 30% or more off the card's face value, then use the card to purchase the things you normally would in your daily shopping routine. There are tons of merchants available like Macys, New York and Company, Bath and Body Works, Payless, and more.
Here’s how it works: You visit the PlasticJungle.com website and search for a card based on how deep of a discount you want (e.g. 20%+). The search results will show you all of the cards that are currently within the marketplace at that discounted rate! So, if you see a $50 gift card with a 25% discount, then you'd pay $37.50 for the card, plus shipping is free!
That means that you've purchased the power of a $50 gift card, but only paid 75% of its value, thus allowing you to pay 75 cents on the dollar for your future purchases! Definitely a great deal if you’re already planning on shopping, and are going to spend the money anyway. It’s truly a win-win situation. And the great part is: There's no risk since Plastic Jungle verifies and guarantees the balance on each card.
Of course, on the flip side, if you have gift cards that you’d like to get rid of, you can sell them there too. There’s a $25 minimum balance requirement, but other than that, the selling process is just as easy as buying them!
This is definitely a great way to save money for any thrifty shoppers out there looking to Maximize their dollars!
